New Delhi, September 2, 2026: The registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 has begun today, September 2, with IIT Madras serving as the organising institute. Eligible candidates can now submit their applications through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) on the official GATE 2027 website.

The regular application window will remain open until September 27, 2026, without a late fee. Candidates who miss the regular deadline will be able to apply with a late fee until October 5, 2026.

GATE 2027 Important Dates

Candidates should keep the following dates in mind:

  • Registration begins: September 2, 2026
  • Regular registration deadline: September 27, 2026
  • Registration with late fee: October 5, 2026
  • Application rectification window: October 14 to 21, 2026
  • City allotment notification: January 4, 2027
  • GATE 2027 examination: February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027
  • GATE 2027 result: March 19, 2027
  • Admit card: Date to be announced


Who Can Apply for GATE 2027?

GATE 2027 is open to eligible undergraduate students and graduates from disciplines including engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts and humanities.

There is no age limit for appearing in GATE, and candidates can attempt the examination multiple times, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Indian nationals are required to complete the registration using a verified DigiLocker account. Candidates are therefore advised to ensure that their DigiLocker account is active and verified before beginning the application process.

GATE 2027 Exam Pattern and New Paper

GATE 2027 will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across 30 test papers. Candidates can choose either one paper or up to two papers from the permitted combinations.

IIT Madras has introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new test paper for GATE 2027. Changes have also been made to the syllabus of certain existing papers.

GATE 2027 Application Fee

The application fee for GATE 2027 is:

  • ₹1,000: Female candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories
  • ₹2,000: All other candidates

The fee can be paid online using UPI, net banking or credit/debit cards.

How to Apply for GATE 2027?

Candidates can complete the GATE 2027 registration process by following these steps:

  • Visit the official GATE 2027 website and open the GOAPS portal.
  • Register using a valid email address and active mobile number.
  • Complete the registration process and obtain the Enrolment ID.
  • Log in to GOAPS using the registered credentials.
  • Enter personal, academic and other required details.
  • Select the GATE test paper and permitted second paper, if applicable.
  • Upload the required photograph, signature and supporting documents.
  • Pay the application fee through the available online payment options.
  • Submit the completed application form.
  • Download and save a PDF copy of the submitted application for future reference.

Candidates are advised to carefully check all information entered in the application form before final submission and keep monitoring the official GATE 2027 website for updates regarding the admit card, examination and other important announcements.

GATE scores are used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes at participating institutions and are also considered by several Public Sector Undertakings for recruitment.
